Job description

Are you an experienced heavy equipment operator with experience in vertical and/or horizontal earth drilling? Do you have a high mechanical aptitude and the desire to advance within the drilling and blasting industry with a stable, growing, majority employee-owned company? If yes, we want to meet you!

About the Role

The ideal candidate will have Down the Hole (DTH) drilling experience, though top hammer drilling experience is acceptable as we are willing to cross-train. The primary work area is within the New England region, including Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and other areas as work demands. Most work involves quarry drilling with DTH drills, but those with top hammer experience may also work on construction/DOT projects. Work hours typically range from 8 to 12 hours per day, depending on job demands. Candidates should be self-motivated, skilled in time management, and professional in interactions with customers and colleagues.

Position: Drill Operator

Safely perform all construction or quarry drilling activities in accordance with the job program to meet production goals.

Responsibilities

1. Follow safety policies and procedures.
2. Perform daily maintenance on equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
3. Understand drill patterns and terminology; execute drill pattern and layout as established by the Blaster Foreman.
4. Maximize the use of all drill supplies and inventory accessories, understanding associated costs.
5. Communicate terrain conditions and problems to the Blasting Supervisor.
6. Understand and utilize the Field Accounting system; accurately complete and submit drill reports, hole sheets, and signed timecards.
7. Maintain physical agility required for the role.
8. Participate in meetings: foreman’s, safety, job-specific, daily heads-up.
9. Work independently while maintaining efficiency and safety.
10. Complete Driller I and Driller II training certifications.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1. At least 5 years of hydraulic equipment operating experience.
2. Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation, preferably a truck.
3. Personal cell phone for communication.
4. One year of construction industry experience.
5. Experience as a construction laborer.
6. Strong common sense regarding equipment and machinery operation.
7. Mechanical aptitude based on experience with equipment, motors, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
8. Ability to pass pre-employment physical and drug screening.
9. Successful background screening for ATF.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift 50-100 lbs., 30-40% of the time.
• Stooping and bending 30-40% of the time.
• Work on uneven and loose surfaces in varying weather conditions.
