Job description

Are you an experienced heavy equipment operator with experience in vertical and/or horizontal earth drilling? Do you have a high mechanical aptitude and a desire to advance within the drilling and blasting industry with a stable, growing, majority employee-owned company? The ideal candidate will have Down the Hole (DTH) drilling experience, though top hammer drilling experience is acceptable as we are willing to cross-train. The primary work area is central to eastern North Carolina, with potential travel to western NC or out of state if work demands change. Most work involves quarry drilling with DTH drills, but those with top hammer experience may also work on construction/DOT projects. Work hours range from 8 to 12 hours per day, depending on job demands. Candidates should be self-motivated, skilled in time management, and professional in interactions with customers and colleagues.

Drill Operator Responsibilities
  1. Safely perform all construction or quarry drilling activities in accordance with the job program to achieve production goals.
  2. Follow safety policies and procedures.
  3. Perform daily maintenance for safe and efficient equipment operation.
  4. Understand drill patterns and terminology; execute drill pattern and layout as established by the Blaster Foreman.
  5. Maximize the usage of all drill supplies.
  6. Inventory accessories, understand their costs, and maintain equipment.
  7. Communicate problems and terrain conditions to the Blasting Supervisor.
  8. Understand and utilize the Field Accounting system; complete and submit drill reports, hole sheets, and signed timecards accurately and timely.
  9. Participate in meetings: safety, foreman's, job-specific, daily heads-up.
  10. Work independently while maintaining efficiency and safety.
  11. Complete Driller I and Driller II training certifications.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5+ years hydraulic equipment operating experience.
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation (must own a truck).
  • Personal cell phone for communication.
  • At least one year of experience in the construction industry.
  • Experience as a construction laborer.
  • High level of common sense regarding equipment and machinery operation.
  • Mechanical aptitude based on experience with equipment, motors, hydraulics, electrical systems, etc.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment physical and drug screening.
  • Successful background screening for ATF.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift 50-100 lbs., 30-40% of the time.
  • Stooping and bending 30-40% of the time.
  • Work on uneven and loose surfaces in varying weather conditions.
