Job summary

NFI is seeking a Drayage Dispatcher in Edison, NJ to plan driver utilization for container movements between port locations and customer facilities. The role is Monday–Friday, 7am–4pm, with base hourly pay and opportunities to grow.

You will coordinate in‑house and sub‑hauler fleets, maintain KPI reporting, and ensure accurate load status updates in the operations system. Ideal candidates have port drayage experience, strong communication skills, and proficiency with MS Office and Trinium.

Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of Port Drayage experience with ocean container drayage customers at the Ports.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with drayage/intermodal business.
  • High school diploma or general education degree required.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Well organized with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience with Trinium Transportation Management System desired; proficiency in Word and Excel required.

Responsibilities

  • Plan loads, schedule drivers, and dispatch for in‑house owner operator fleet and sub‑haulers.
  • Maintain positive relations with dispatchers and drivers.
  • Provide regular updates on service issues to facility departments.
  • Produce daily and weekly KPI data reports.
  • Manage inputs for driver settlement processes.
  • Utilize Trinium system to address issues and document interactions.
  • Maintain a pool of sub‑haulers to handle volume spikes.
  • Follow escalation processes for major service failures.
  • Respond promptly to driver or carrier needs.
  • Enter load status accurately into the operations system.
  • Assist with implementing safety, security, and operational programs.
  • Ensure timely completion of daily and weekly tasks.

Overview

The Drayage Dispatcher is responsible for planning the utilization of drivers/owner‑operators for container movements to and from port locations to customer facilities. Available shift: Monday through Friday, 7am-4pm.

Responsibilities
  • Provides load planning, driver scheduling/appointments, and dispatch duties for in‑house owner operator fleet and any sub‑haulers.
  • Maintains positive and encouraging working relations with all dispatchers and drivers.
  • Provides constant communications of service issues to the facility departments.
  • Provides daily and weekly performance/KPI data reports.
  • Manages and maintains operations inputs to allow for driver settlement via the dispatchers and settlement teams.
  • Utilizes Trinium system to address issues and document interactions.
  • Maintains ample sub‑haulers to handle spikes in volume.
  • Follows specific escalation process in the event of major service failure or issue.
  • Responds promptly to driver or carrier needs.
  • Accurately and timely enters load status into the operation system.
  • Assists with implementing Safety, Security, and Operational programs roll out.
  • Ensures accurate and timely completion of daily and weekly tasks.

Compensation

The base hourly rate for this position is $23.28‑$30.00 per hour. NFI will consider applicants’ qualifications, experience, education, and geographic location when determining a starting rate of pay.
