Job summary

Young Electric Sign Company in Salt Lake City is seeking a Draftsman to design and prepare shop drawings for signage and structures, using AutoCAD and related programs. You'll collaborate with engineers and production teams to interpret concepts and generate precise fabrication drawings.

This full-time position requires a High School Diploma or GED and at least two years of drafting experience or an equivalent mix of training.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED plus 2+ years of drafting, mechanical drawing, and computer design work.
  • Organize, prioritize and coordinate multiple activities to meet deadlines.
  • Communicate effectively with engineers, vendors and staff.
  • Proficient use of drafting software (AutoCAD, Illustrator, Autodesk Inventor, Titan).
  • Apply basic design math and maintain accuracy in drawings.

Job description

Job Title: Draftsman — Location: RM - Salt Lake — Job Type: Full time

General Purpose

Under the general supervision, drafts designs utilizing computer-aided drafting systems to prepare drawings and designs. Drawings are used to obtain work permits and to illustrate construction methods, materials, and fabrication direction.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Drafts and produces shop drawings for in-house or outside vendors to illustrate signage or other structure fabrication.
  • Converses with engineers and other subject matter experts to interpret design concepts and determine the nature and type of required details.
  • Creates router files for the Layout Department.
  • Assists in identifying trouble areas and providing necessary fixes to ensure manufacturing or installation processes are not impeded.
  • Researches and recommends new materials and hardware for use on signage or other structures.
Marginal Duties & Responsibilities
  • Prints or compiles shop drawing and engineering drawing packages for dissemination or submission.
  • Performs other functions as necessary or as assigned.
Nature of Work Contacts
  • Interacts with vendors.
  • Daily interaction with the engineering team, production staff, and other departments.
Training & Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. A High School Diploma or GED and two or more years of relevant experience involving demonstrated abilities in drafting, mechanical drawing, and computer design work; or any combination of training, education, and experience that provides the following skills.

  • Organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple work activities to meet critical deadlines while working independently.
  • Deal effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of individuals in person, via telephone, and in writing.
  • Operate computer, telephone, and other office equipment.
  • Use computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and drafting (AutoCAD, Illustrator, Autodesk Inventor, Titan, etc.).
  • Apply basic design math.
  • Maintain a strong work ethic, enthusiastic positive attitude, and highest level of integrity.
  • Communicate and present effectively.
  • Maintain regular and timely attendance.
Physical/Sensory Demands

Work is generally performed in a safe and comfortable office environment. While performing duties, the employee is regularly required to:

  • Sit for long periods, use a computer to enter data or design products, use the telephone to converse with customers and staff, and perform repetitive wrist, hand, and/or finger movements.
  • Talk, feel the attributes of objects, grasp, push, and reach with arms or hands.
  • Maintain clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and adjust eye focus.
