Job summary

AbbVie Inc. is seeking a scientifically driven professional to conceive and implement novel experimental approaches in downstream process development.

You will identify, develop, and optimize methods to support CMC activities and facilitate tech transfer across programs. The role emphasizes strong communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, a focus on continuous improvement, and the advancement of technologies such as AI and automation to drive manufacturability and quality

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Biological science with focus in Immunology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or related discipline with typically 7+ (BS) or 5+ (MS) years of relevant lab experience.
• Education background in chemical engineering, biochemistry, biochemical engineering, or biotechnology is preferred.
• Experience in downstream process intensification or modeling is preferred.
• Experience in purification process development is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop robust downstream processes for early- and late-stage pipeline molecules to support CMC activities and improve tech transfer workflows.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives and next-generation platform development, including modeling of COgs, process fits, and gains.
• Optimize downstream purification unit operations using experimentation and modeling to advance process characterization.
• Design and execute process development and characterization activities with independence and rigor.
• Build deep scientific understanding of downstream unit operations and their impact on manufacturability.
• Exhibit initiative to implement novel technologies (e.g., AI, automation, digital transformation).
• Prepare publications, presentations, regulatory documents, and potentially patent filings as needed.
