Job summary

The Cumberland County Department of Social Services solicits a counselor to provide immediate and intensive intervention in its CARE Center Family Violence Program. The role includes individual and group counseling, case management, and facilitating treatment and support groups.

Staff may work evenings and at the shelter when required, serving as a public relations presence for outreach. Requirements include a master's or bachelor's degree in a human services field with supervised counseling

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a human services field with two years of counseling/therapy experience (one supervised); or a bachelor's degree with three years of related counseling/therapy experience (one supervised).
• Preferred: additional training in the dynamics of domestic violence and domestic law.
• Thorough knowledge of assessment and counseling/therapy principles for complex family work and crisis intervention.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive domestic violence counseling to clients and family members.
• Serve as facilitator for women's and children's support groups and RESOLVE Batterer's Treatment Program classes.
• Develop case plans with realistic outcomes and document progress in case records.
• Act as public relations representative when delivering presentations and may work at the shelter as needed.
