Job summary

Atlas Search is seeking a Domestic Controller in the Westport, CT area with travel to West Coast offices. You will lead U.S. accounting operations, rebuild revenue recognition under ASC 606, and drive a faster, accrual-based close while partnering with the global finance organization.

You will oversee GL, AR/Billing, and AP, mentor teams, and implement process improvements across domestic entities as acquisitions occur.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred.
• 12+ years of controllership experience within a professional services organization.
• Strong command of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and the financial close.
• Deep ASC 606 expertise, including hands-on percentage-of-completion revenue recognition and contract assets and liabilities.
• Experience implementing or enhancing accrual-based revenue recognition processes and systems.
• Minimum of five years managing accounting teams across GL, AR, and AP.
• ERP proficiency; Deltek Vantagepoint experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead all domestic accounting operations, including monthly, quarterly, and annual close, with a focus on a faster, cleaner close.
• Oversee revenue recognition under ASC 606, including contract review, performance obligations, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
• Design and implement accrual-based revenue recognition processes, controls, and documentation.
• Manage the General Ledger function, including journal entries, reconciliations, intercompany accounting, fixed assets, accruals, and balance sheet integrity.
• Direct Accounts Receivable, billing, and collections, along with Accounts Payable, subconsultant payments, and 1099 reporting.
• Monitor working capital and maintain accounting policies and internal controls.
• Coordinate annual audits and partner with external auditors and tax advisors.
• Support integration of acquired businesses and standardize accounting processes across domestic entities.
• Mentor and develop the accounting team and partner with operational leaders and the global finance team.
• Drive process improvement and automation.

Our client, a fast-growing project and cost management consultancy with a large global footprint, is seeking a Domestic Controller to lead all U.S. accounting operations. This leader will rebuild revenue recognition under ASC 606, move the business toward accrual-based accounting, and shorten the monthly close. The role manages the General Ledger, Accounts Receivable/Billing, and Accounts Payable teams and partners closely with the global finance organization. It offers real influence over team culture and process as the company continues to grow, including through acquisitions. The position can be based in Westport, CT, with recurring extended travel to a West Coast office.

The annual salary range is $225,000 to $275,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things.
