Job summary

Kirby-Smith Machinery, Inc. - Chico, TX is offering a DoD SkillBridge Heavy Equipment Service Technician/Mechanic internship to transitioning service members.

You will gain supervised, hands-on experience in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy construction and industrial equipment while learning shop operations and safety practices. The program provides training at no cost to the service member, with potential to transition to a full-time Shop Service Technician role upon separation

Qualifications

• Active-duty service member approved for DoD SkillBridge participation with 180 days or fewer before separation.
• Military experience in mechanical/technical maintenance preferred and capable of following repair procedures.
• Must have valid driver's license; CDL preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Performs diagnostic tests, troubleshooting, and repair on heavy equipment under supervision.
• Completes preventive maintenance inspections and scheduled service work.
• Reads and interprets technical manuals and wiring diagrams; uses diagnostic tools.
• Documents work performed, parts used, and hours in the shop system.
• Maintains a clean, safe work area and adheres to safety standards.
• Participates in on-the-job training and shadows experienced technicians.
