Job summary

Kirby-Smith Machinery, Inc. - McAlester, OK is offering a DoD SkillBridge Heavy Equipment Service Technician/Mechanic internship.

You will gain hands-on, supervised training diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy construction equipment while learning Kirby-Smith shop operations and safety standards. This program provides full military pay during the internship, with potential full-time employment for high-performance interns upon separation from military service.

Qualifications

• Active-duty service member approved for participation in the DoD SkillBridge Program with 180 days or fewer remaining before separation.
• Experience with mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems; able to read manuals and follow repair procedures.
• Willingness to learn manufacturer-specific diagnostic tools and software.
• Valid driver's license; CDL preferred but not required.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a shop environment with safety awareness.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic testing, troubleshooting, and repair on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and powertrains under supervision.
• Complete preventive maintenance inspections and scheduled service work on heavy equipment.
• Read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and service bulletins.
• Document work performed, parts used, and labor hours in the shop system.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area and communicate professionally with teammates and customers.
