Job summary

Kirby-Smith Machinery, Inc. invites transitioning service members to participate in the DoD SkillBridge Heavy Equipment Service Technician/Mechanic internship.

The program offers supervised, hands-on training diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy construction and industrial equipment while learning Kirby-Smith shop operations and safety standards. Interns receive full military pay and benefits during the internship, with potential for full-time employment upon separation.

Qualifications

• Active-duty service member approved for SkillBridge participation with 180 days or fewer before separation.
• Military experience in mechanical/technical/maintenance fields preferred.
• Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Ability to read technical manuals and follow repair procedures.
• Willingness to learn manufacturer-specific diagnostic tools/software.
• Valid driver's license; CDL preferred but not required.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks in a shop.
• Strong work ethic, safety commitment, and professional communication.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnosis, repair, and maintenance on heavy construction and industrial equipment under supervision.
• Learn Kirby-Smith shop operations, safety standards, and customer service practices.
• Assist with diagnostic testing, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.
• Read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and service bulletins.
• Document work performed and parts used in the shop management system.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
