Job summary

Payabli’s docs team leads the way in developer experience for its embedded payments platform. We’re seeking a seniorDocs Team Lead to guide two technical writers, stay hands-on, and own the API reference across Pay In, Pay Out and Pay Ops. You’ll set direction, run tooling, CI/CD, and establish documentation standards.

This is a hands-on, player-coach role reporting to the CTO, with a fully remote setup. You’ll collaborate across product and engineering, measure outcomes, and mentor team members

Qualifications

• 8+ years in technical writing or developer documentation with API reference experience.
• Experience leading or mentoring technical writers.
• Deep OpenAPI experience and docs-as-code workflows with Git, PRs, CI and Markdown/MDX.
• Ability to read API responses, write scripts (TypeScript or Python) and build docOps tools.
• Hands-on experience using AI coding agents in a docs workflow and strong judgment.
• Habit of verifying everything and saying “I don’t know yet” instead of guessing.
• Clear written communication and async-first collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Lead the team of two technical writers, conduct 1:1s, and career development.
• Own the API reference for embedded payments across Pay In, Pay Out and Pay Ops; maintain OpenAPI sources.
• Own information architecture, docs CI/CD, style guide and linting rules.
• Use AI agents in daily workflows with human review gates; review PRs before SME review.
