Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. is seeking a dedicated dockworker to efficiently load and unload freight, ensuring items go onto the correct trailers. Safety is paramount, using forklifts, pallet jacks, and manual methods while securing freight with straps and airbags where applicable.

The role requires detailed knowledge of freight forms, shipping labels, and DOT guidelines, with a strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced service center environment.

Qualifications

• Education: High school degree or equivalent.
• Experience: Must have working knowledge of safe and efficient lifting and transporting procedures.
• Must have working knowledge of procedures surrounding all aspects of freight transportation.
• Must have knowledge of different loading techniques such as loading tight and cross loading.
• Familiarity with forms used in freight movement such as shipping orders, manifests, freight bills, exclusion/exception forms.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight on trailers using a forklift, pallet jack or manually in compliance with DOT guidelines.
• Use loading techniques such as tight loading or cross loading.
• Transport self and freight around the service center on non-forgiving surfaces.
• Monitor freight locations using the Dock Yard Management System.
• Read and interpret shipping labels and forms.
• Secure freight with pallets, straps, or rope to prevent damage.
• Ensure quality loading of trailers and proper securing of freight.
