Job summary

General Dynamics NASSCO in Norfolk, VA is seeking a Dockmaster to manage drydock operations, ship docking/undocking, and waterfront services. The role requires NAVSEA-certified credentials, extensive drydock experience, and coordination with ABS, NAVSEA, NSSA, and the Navy.

The Dockmaster leads vessel movements, maintains safety/compliance, and supervises the drydock team. The position requires readiness to work with multiple agencies and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA)-certified dockmaster.
• Experience in at least 10 dockings/undockings in the same type of drydock preferred.
• Proficient in AUTOCAD.
• Ship handling skills required.
• Excellent command of the English language, both verbally and in writing.
• Knowledge of NAVSEA MIL STD 1625D and Naval Ship Technical Manual Requirements, OSHA requirements for commercial diving, and ability to read blueprints.

Responsibilities

• Supervises all docking and undocking operations.
• Responsible for all waterfront operations, including ship movements, tug operations, berths, mooring, hull inspections, cofferdams, underwater inspections.
• Schedules tugs and pilots for all ship movement activities.
• Oversees preventative maintenance programs on the drydock and waterfront equipment.
• Reviews NAVSEA requirements to ensure MIL STD 1625D certification on the drydocks.
• Maintains drydock in classification.
• Reviews and approves block drawings and placement.
• Coordinates ship service connections.
• Oversees the drydock department budget.
• Oversees environmental issues on the drydock.
• Reviews internal projects and ship support budgets related to the drydock.
• Conducts ship handling services for dock trials.
• Maintains contact with Coast Guard when necessary.
• Performs other responsibilities as assigned.
