Job summary

Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. is seeking a dockworker in Carson, CA to efficiently load and unload freight while adhering to safety guidelines. You will operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and manual lifts to move goods within the service center and ensure accurate freight placement on trailers.

The role requires accurate use of shipping labels, form completion, and proper securing of loads. A strong work ethic and teamwork are essential in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Must have safety-focused mindset and adhere to DOT guidelines.
• Must be able to lift, move and secure freight efficiently.
• Experience with freight loading/unloading and common shipping forms.
• Ability to operate dock yard management system and use tablets for yard tasks.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight on trailers using forklift or manually.
• Apply appropriate loading techniques to ensure safe transport.
• Move freight throughout the service center on various surfaces.
• Monitor freight location using the Dock Yard Management System.
• Read and interpret shipping labels and forms used in freight movement.
• Secure freight with straps, airbags and other equipment.
• Ensure quality loading of all trailers and safe handling of goods.
• Frequent contact with service center staff and maintain deadlines.
