We are seeking an Engineering Technician III in the Division 9 Utilities Unit to serve as the Division Utility Coordinator. The role involves facilitating and managing utility relocations, adjustments, removals, and additions along NCDOT highways and Right of Way, ensuring the safety, mobility, and integrity of the highway system.
The incumbent will manage projects and engineering resources supporting design activities and project schedules for NCDOT Division Managed Projects. They will make critical recommendations, represent the Division Utility Engineer and Senior Utility Coordinator, and present decisions to internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely project delivery.
Responsibilities include reviewing utility analysis and routing reports, utility relocation plans, project estimates, and cost responsibilities. The role also involves supervising and providing technical training to approximately 5-8 DOT/CEI inspectors within the Division Utilities Unit.
Proficiency in office computer applications (MS Word, Excel, Access, SAP) and CADD software (Microstation, GEOPAK) is required. Knowledge of NCDOT policies related to utility accommodations for water and sewer design is also necessary. The candidate should be able to read, interpret, and explain utility/construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and inspection documents to various stakeholders.

Minimum qualifications include an Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related discipline from an accredited institution, along with three (3) years of progressive technician-level experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
