This posting is for an Engineering Technician III in the Division 9 Utilities Unit. The successful candidate will serve as the Division Utility Coordinator, responsible for facilitating and managing utility relocations, adjustments, removals, and additions along NCDOT highways and Right of Way. The role aims to maintain the integrity, mobility, and safety of the highway system for users.
The individual will manage projects and engineering resources supporting design activities and project schedules for NCDOT Division Managed Projects. They will make critical recommendations, represent the Division Utility Engineer and Senior Utility Coordinator, and collaborate with internal and external departments to ensure project delivery schedules are met. Additionally, the role involves reviewing utility analysis and routing reports, utility relocation plans, project estimates, and cost responsibilities.
The position includes supervising and providing technical training to approximately 5-8 DOT/CEI inspectors within the Division Utilities Unit, supporting the Division Managed Project Program.

The candidate should have basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Access, SAP), knowledge of CADD (Microstation, GEOPAK), and familiarity with NCDOT policies regarding utility accommodations for water and sewer design. Ability to interpret and explain utility/construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection documents to various stakeholders.

Minimum qualifications include an Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related discipline from an accredited institution, plus three years of progressive technician experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
