Job summary

City of Alexandria’s Transportation & Environmental Services seeks a Division Chief of Permits and Inspections to provide high-level leadership for permit processing, plan review, and right-of-way inspections. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required.
• Eight years of progressively responsible engineering experience including project management, infrastructure design and construction in the public sector, with three years of supervisory experience and PE licensure (Virginia) or equivalent.
• Ideal candidate: Bachelor's in Civil Engineering, five years Civil Engineering experience in design or plan review for land development/public transportation, three years managerial experience, and driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Lead permit processing, plan review, utility permitting, property information, and right-of-way inspection functions.
• Shape implementation of complex, citywide development projects and initiatives.
• Build strong partnerships with the development community, City departments, and external agencies involved in review/approval of development projects.
• Solve complex problems by bringing stakeholders together to identify practical solutions and keep projects moving forward.
• Modernize and streamline services by developing new programs and improving processes to simplify doing business with the City.
• Lead and develop a diverse team of managers, engineers, inspectors, and support staff.
• Oversee budget development, financial reconciliation, and fund management.
• Represent T&ES and the City with residents, development community, senior leadership, elected officials, and external partners.
• Work in a dynamic environment combining strategic leadership, technical problem-solving, and field engagement.
