The Challenge
We’re looking for an experienced Engineer to join our team and serve as the District Engineer for Guilford County.
As an Engineering Supervisor III, you will:
- Manage administration of highway construction contracts, supervise contact construction work, establish engineering controls for the contractors, and inspect the construction work.
- Manage operations, including encroachments, subdivision reviews, driveway permits, oversize and overweight permits, and road additions.
- Provide fiscal and staff management.
- Be a point of contact for local governments, planning organizations, and the public to provide maintenance and construction information, coordination, and service delivery.
What You Bring
- Experience reviewing project plans and specifications for locally-managed projects, subdivisions right of way encroachments, and driveway permit applications for compliance with all applicable design and safety standards.
- Customer service experience with internal and external customers, including staff and management, municipal and county governments, consultants, and contractors, elected officials, and the public, including explaining engineering concepts clearly.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of engineering concepts, practices, and theories used in planning, project development, and construction activities of roadways and bridges, including simple to complex projects.
- Contract administration knowledge to ensure projects are constructed per NCDOT specifications, standard drawings, and policies.
- Experience collaborating with others to find solutions to controversial or sensitive matters that establish precedent.
- Apply a safety philosophy to all operations.
- Ability to work safely outside, with exposure to hazards on construction sites, including night work, heights, highway traffic, and rough terrain when evaluating highway construction.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, in a clear, concise, organized, and persuasive manner.
- Ability to supervise and instruct junior employees in highway and bridge construction work methods.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely.

To candidates:
- Already registered as a Professional Engineer by NC Board of Examiners for Engineers & Surveyors.
- Experience with HiCams and SharePoint/Plus knowledge.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
- 5+ years of experience.
- 3+ years of supervisory experience.
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
