Job summary

Shelton School District is seeking an Operations & Project Manager at the Central Office to lead cross-functional initiatives that support district operations, teaching and learning, and executive leadership. The role exercises substantial independent judgment and requires strong communication and data-driven decision-making.

The position features a 260-day schedule, 8-hour days, and exempt status, with a comprehensive benefits package including SEBB health coverage, vacation and holiday leave,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, education, organizational leadership, project management, or a related field.
  • Ability to pass a Federal criminal background check.
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in project management, organizational operations, process improvement, public administration, or a related field, preferred (not required).
  • Experience independently managing complex, cross-functional projects involving multiple stakeholders, deadlines, and competing priorities.
  • Experience analyzing operational issues, using data to evaluate options, and making recommendations to leadership.
  • Experience developing or improving organizational processes, procedures, or systems.
  • Experience in handling confidential or sensitive information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, spreadsheets, project-tracking systems, and document-management tools.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Leads complex, districtwide operational initiatives supporting Finance, Human Resources, Teaching and Learning, and executive leadership from planning through implementation and evaluation.
  • Works under the supervision of the Executive Director of Human Resources to support human resources leadership functions, including but not limited to support in personnel investigations, labor relations, and grievances.
  • Analyzes workflows, systems, policies, and data to identify operational risks, inefficiencies, and service gaps; develops and recommends practical improvements based on district priorities and available resources.
  • Independently manages multiple high-level projects and department work streams with competing priorities, interdependent deadlines, and districtwide impact.
  • Supports department leaders in developing, implementing, and monitoring annual goals, work plans, timelines, performance measures, and outcomes aligned with district priorities.
  • Oversees the district’s public records request process.
  • Facilitates cross-departmental planning, communication, decision-making, and problem-solving; clarifies responsibilities and ensures accountability for project deliverables.
  • Researches complex issues, assesses available information and resources, evaluates risks and alternatives, and provides data-informed recommendations to district leadership.
  • Develops communications for a variety of stakeholders.
  • Exercises independent judgment and delegated decision-making authority to resolve operational challenges, adapts project strategies, and takes calculated risks while appropriately escalating significant legal, financial, labor, or policy matters.
  • Develops and implements procedures, internal controls, templates, dashboards, and other tools that improve consistency, accountability, compliance, and service delivery.
  • Prepares and presents reports, decision briefs, project updates, process documentation, and recommendations for district leadership and other stakeholders
  • Attends trainings and meetings as appropriate or directed.
  • Performs related management-level duties and special projects as assigned.
