Job summary

Newark Public Schools is seeking a Confidential Special Assistant of Operations to support the School Leadership Team and bridge Central Office with principals and district leaders.

The role emphasizes managing school operations, data accuracy, and resource planning to improve student outcomes. Strong communication and project management are essential for success in a fast-paced, 12-month environment.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Five (5) years of teaching experience plus three (3) years of administrative experience preferred or equivalent other relevant experience.
  • Principal Standard Certificate or Certificate of Eligibility preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily school operations, including managing school-based schedules, coordinating events, and maintaining records as directed by the School Leadership Team.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for parents, students, and staff regarding district issues.
  • Respond to inquiries, resolve school-based issues, and provide summaries of information as requested by the School Leadership Team.
  • Spend a minimum of 75% of work time in schools supporting School Leadership Teams with financial, managerial and operational needs.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues by identifying solutions and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Support school leaders to maintain accurate data and up-to-date records, including student information, attendance, and disciplinary data for schools in the assigned School Leadership Team.
  • Serve as liaison between school leaders and operational departments including budgeting, purchasing, human resource services, facilities, security and safety, as well as inventory management, ensuring compliance with district policies and procedures.
  • Support the implementation of district-based policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Lead or participate in special projects and initiatives as directed by leaders.
  • Facilitate the acquisition of resources for schools related to district initiatives, ensuring alignment with budgetary goals.
  • Assist in planning and managing the implementation of the district's summer school programs for the summer season.
  • Resolve all assigned SLT and/or department-level issues.
  • Support school leaders in ensuring proper staffing for schools, including monitoring staff attendance, substitute deployment, and filling vacancies.
  • Assist in planning and implementing staff development and transferring skills to principals, teachers, and other district staff.
  • Provide technical assistance to staff.
  • Communicate information between schools and school leadership teams.
  • Facilitate obtaining resources from Central Office.
  • Work with school administrators to establish specific and targeted student performance goals and metrics.
  • Focus school administrators on student outcomes and teacher quality while assisting with management of school resources, including identifying appropriate additional resources when necessary to meet the instructional needs of the school.

The Superintendent invites qualified and interested individuals to apply for the position of Confidential Special Assistant of Operations supporting the work of the School Leadership Team.

Definition

The Confidential Special Assistant of Operations will serve as a liaison between the Central Office, Principals, and their School Leadership Team as well as other Department Leaders to ensure that students receive outstanding non‑instructional support and services in their school.

  • Ability to prepare clear, concise correspondence and reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
