Job summary

State of South Carolina, through its Department of Transportation, seeks a District Special Projects Engineer to oversee field construction offices, manage highway and bridge projects, and ensure delivery to contract and departmental standards.

You will coordinate daily work schedules, oversee inspections, coordinate utility relocations, and serve as liaison with county and municipal officials, while monitoring budgets and contractor progress.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management is required.

Responsibilities

• Oversees field construction office with consultants, engineers and technicians.
• Manages inspection of highway and bridge construction projects within the assigned area.
• Ensures projects are delivered to contract and Departmental requirements.
• Coordinates daily project work schedules and public hearings.
• Represents SCDOT with county and municipal officials; answers inquiries from the public.
• Monitors contractor schedules and project budgets.
• Reviews contracts and prepares documentation to close out projects.
