Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a District Special Projects Engineer to oversee a field construction office and manage highway and bridge projects in the assigned district.

You will monitor contractor schedules and budgets, resolve issues, coordinate utility relocations, and maintain daily work plans while liaising with county and municipal officials and the public. Travel and lifting up to 50 lbs may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management.
• Five years of engineering or construction management experience.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel; physical requirements listed.

Responsibilities

• Oversee field construction office, including consultants, engineers and technicians.
• Inspect multiple highway and bridge projects to ensure compliance with contracts and DOT standards.
• Resolve project issues and coordinate daily work schedules.
• Coordinate utility relocations with road and bridge construction.
• Represent DOT at public hearings and liaise with county and municipal officials.
• Monitor contractor schedules and project budgets; control costs through processes.
• Prepare and submit documentation to close out projects.
• Read and interpret contract plans; gather data for sampling.
