Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a District Special Projects Engineer to oversee field construction offices with consultants, engineers, and technicians. You will monitor multiple highway and bridge projects to ensure delivery according to contract and departmental requirements while resolving arising issues.

You will plan daily work schedules, coordinate inspections and surveying, and monitor budgets and contractor progress.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management with five years of engineering or construction management experience, or an approved equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Provide oversight of field construction office with consultants, engineers and technicians.
• Ensure projects meet contract and Departmental requirements; resolve issues.
• Plan and coordinate daily work schedules; inspect and survey roadway and bridge construction.
• Monitor budgets and contractor schedules; ensure timely project closeouts.
• Read and interpret contract plans and gather samples for QA/ASR purposes.
• Represent SCDOT at public hearings and liaise with county/municipal officials.
