Behavioral Support Specialist Job Description

Location: Allen County Intermediate Center
The position of Behavioral Support Specialist with Allen County Schools (ACS) is designed to assist with project facilitation for the STOP School Violence grant program, a three-year project funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs’ Bureau of Justice Assistance. This is the last year of the three years.
The Behavioral Support Specialist will support program implementation and will be responsible for directly serving students in the district to help meet program goals and objectives. This will be done through providing applied behavior analysis support services to implement student Behavior Intervention Plans, and allowing students to demonstrate success across varied school settings.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field
- Preferred Board Certified Behavior Analyst
- Must be a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), or able to become certified within three months of hire
- Background working with students with social-emotional and behavior concerns preferred
- Experience with IEP goals, progress monitoring, and ARC meetings preferred
- Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Medicaid experience preferred
- Experience working with children required
- Excellent analytical skills; experience with data collection and analysis
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Proficient computer skills, including creating documents, spreadsheets, and databases
- Ability to work independently and be self-motivated
- Good interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate and promote positive relations
- Effective communication with students, parents, teachers, and staff
- Flexible hours to meet program needs
- Valid driver’s license, good driving record, access to reliable vehicle
Performance Responsibilities
- Provide behavioral services to school-aged children and education to families for behavioral interventions
- Implement assigned students’ Behavior Intervention Plans under supervision or independently if certified as BCBA
- Collaborate with other specialists, teachers, mental health professionals, and administrators
- Provide behavioral intervention services to 5-10 students, depending on needs
- Document evaluations, progress notes, BIPs, and grant-related data accurately
- Participate in continuing education and project meetings
- Communicate care and concern for student and staff development
- Maintain confidentiality of student information
- Uphold ethical standards and seek professional growth
- Follow all district policies and perform additional duties as assigned
Additional Details
- Annual contract: Up to 200 days
- Reports to: Superintendent/Project Director/Chief Academic Officer
- Salary: Based on district’s salary schedule, dependent on certifications
