Job summary

FirstEnergy is seeking a Distribution Standards Engineer to provide technical expertise and project support for Distribution Engineering Standards and Distribution Design across the FirstEnergy footprint. This role coordinates with Operating Companies, Distribution Standards, Planning, and IT to ensure compliance and best practices.

The preferred reporting locations are Fairmont, WV; Akron, OH; and Greensburg, PA, with other corporate offices possible.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution is required or equivalent alternatives.
PE license or equivalent engineering credentials may be required.
Three+ years of engineering work experience.
Proficient with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel; able to learn GISView and AutoCAD.
Technical expertise with FirstEnergy Engineering, Design, Construction, Equipment Standards.

Responsibilities

Create Engineering Practices, Material Specifications, Field Guides, and Construction Standards for distribution line projects.
Analyze standards and equipment issues and recommend solutions and alternatives.
Review manufacturer drawings for compliance with specifications.
Coordinate Working Groups to ensure best practices and tools are used.
Ensure training materials are available for end users in collaboration with Training groups.
Document proposed enhancements and implementation for Distribution Standards.
Participate in department status calls for projects.
Support regulatory and leadership initiatives with technical advice and education.
Research industry data to identify best practices and asset management processes.
Attend industry user group meetings (EPRI, IEEE, NEETRAC) as needed.
Lead designated programs and policies; support storm response roles when needed.
