Position Overview

The Utility Distribution Planning Manager oversees the planning, development, and implementation of utility distribution systems. This role requires a strong understanding of electrical engineering, project management, and leadership skills. The manager leads modeling and analysis of the Distribution System to facilitate capital planning, ensuring projects are completed safely and reliably.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement distribution planning strategies and projects.
  2. Design and optimize distribution systems for reliability and efficiency.
  3. Lead a team of engineers and related personnel in distribution planning.
  4. Review and approve technical studies on the distribution system, including load flow and short circuit analyses.
  5. Create short, medium, and long-term Distribution System Plans, prioritizing capital investments.
  6. Coordinate with departments such as project development, engineering, operations, maintenance, and finance.
  7. Prepare and present project proposals and budgets to senior management and stakeholders.
  8. Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols.
  9. Provide technical guidance and support to team members and departments.
  10. Stay updated on utility distribution technology and best practices.
  11. Contribute to corporate forecasting strategies and analysis.
  12. Support regulatory testimony related to AES Ohio and Indiana Distribution activities.
Qualifications
  1. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; problem-solving and attention to detail.
  2. Ability to analyze complex data and make informed decisions.
  3. Deep understanding of electrical engineering principles and distribution system design.
  4. Knowledge of industry standards, utility practices, and regulatory requirements (IRUC, PUCO).
  5. Minimum of 7 years in utility distribution planning or related fields.
  6. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months preferred.
  7. Proficiency in CYME, LoadSeer, and GIS preferred.
Work Environment

The manager will oversee teams in Ohio and Indiana, working mainly in an office setting with occasional site visits and travel for company events, conferences, and training.
