Job summary

Orbital Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Distribution Engineer in the Greater Hammond, IN / Chicago, IL area for a hybrid role.

You will develop distribution construction packages for overhead and underground systems, assist with 2.4 kV–34 kV line design, and prepare drawings, proposals, and schedules in collaboration with designers and engineers. You will support the pole attachment and distribution design processes, ensure QA/QC, apply NESC standards, and engage with clients.

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering (prefer Electrical)
• Engineer in Training (EIT) or FE exam preferred
• PE license preferred
• Knowledge of electric utility distribution concepts
• Ability to read engineering drawings and schematics
• Proficient with MS Office and distribution design software
• Experience with pole loading and construction modeling software beneficial
• Willingness to travel and work hybrid/onsite as required
• Strong QA/QC and documentation skills

Responsibilities

• Prepare distribution voltage construction packages for overhead and underground projects
• Assist with 2.4 kV – 34 kV distribution line design
• Create drawings and as-built documents with Designers/Engineers
• Prepare proposals, cost estimates and schedules
• Provide technical support to customers and regional business development
• Ensure designs meet NESC and client standards
• Analyze field data and update software for design implementation
• Travel as required and interact with clients and landowners
