Job summary

FirstEnergy Corp. is seeking a Distribution Designer to oversee design of Joint Use attachments and oversee related tasks. The role centers on delivering safe, compliant designs while coordinating with customers and internal teams.

You will work from the Fairmont, WV area, with potential assignments at other West Virginia service centers. The position emphasizes safety, accurate records, permits, and collaboration across departments.

Qualifications

• Two–four year degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Management or related discipline or 2+ years related experience.
• Pass the Edison Electric Institute TECH employment test.
• Strong communication to guide decision-making and diffuse conflicts.
• Willing to seek guidance to fill gaps in understanding.
• Self-motivated and able to manage shifting priorities.
• Able to interpret complex written and visual information (procedures, manuals, drawings).
• Familiarity with electrical standards, codes, construction methods; safety mindset.
• Proficient in software: Microsoft Office, SAP, CREWS, OMS, DDS.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate and maintain safety commitment in all tasks.
• Use design standards to complete overhead and underground designs for residential, commercial, and industrial requests.
• Support project progress via customer contacts, field work, and documentation.
• Assist billing for line extensions and relocation work; provide non-routine suggestions.
• Handle OMS follow-ups, outage-related tasks, streetlight work, and J&C projects as needed.
• Obtain permits with railroad, DOT, and municipal entities; document easements with customers.
• Maintain accurate records to support technical reports and metrics.
• Travel to FirstEnergy offices, training facilities, and customer sites as required.
