Job summary

GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking an Assistant CAD Operator 1 (Distribution Designer/Drafter) who will support distribution engineering and field personnel in upgrading and maintaining the distribution system.

The role requires AutoCAD knowledge, strong communication, and the ability to work with customers in the greater East Stroudsburg area. You will design overhead and underground distribution facilities, perform field surveys, and ensure drawings meet design requirements and NEC/NESC

Qualifications

• Associate degree in electrical technology or engineering technology or six months’ work experience related to the responsibilities above required.
• Basic AutoCAD knowledge.
• Construction knowledge.
• 1+ years of experience in distribution utility work.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to distribution engineering and field personnel for upgrading and maintenance of the distribution system.
• Design and permit distribution lines, including drawing preparation, BOM development, material ordering, and field visits with minimal supervision.
• Meet with external customers concerning service requirements and design options.
• Perform survey and layout work in the field.
• Interpret property line boundaries, topographic surveys, as-built surveys, construction staking, ROW staking and collection of geospatial points.
• Initiate designs for new construction or improvements of distribution facilities.
• Inspect work to ensure it meets design requirements and NEC/NESC standards.
• May perform field inspection duties including patrolling distribution lines.
• Provide status updates to supervisors and customers.
• Follow local utility and construction standards.
