Job summary

Cloudflare seeks an experienced Distributed Systems Engineer for the Analytical Database Platform to help build a scalable, high-performance analytics backend. You will develop platform components, scale clusters, optimize queries, and collaborate with the ClickHouse community and internal teams to meet data needs across Cloudflare’s products.

The role emphasizes performance, scalability, and real-time visibility into customer properties, with on-call flexibility as needed.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in software development covering distributed systems and databases.
• Strong programming skills (Go, Python, C++ preferred).
• Strong knowledge of SQL and database internals, including design, optimization and tuning.
• Solid CS foundation: algorithms, data structures, distributed systems and concurrency.
• Ability to work collaboratively and communicate across teams at Cloudflare.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills; able to work independently.
• Experience with ClickHouse is a plus.
• Experience with Terraform is a plus.
• Experience with Linux container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement new platform components for the Cloudflare Analytical Database Platform to improve functionality and performance.
• Add more database clusters to accommodate growing data volumes from Cloudflare products.
• Monitor and maintain performance and reliability of existing clusters; troubleshoot issues.
• Identify bottlenecks in the analytics database platform; optimize query performance and data ingestion.
• Collaborate with the ClickHouse open-source community to contribute features and upstream code.
• Work with other Cloudflare teams to understand data needs and build data-driven solutions.
• Contribute to next-gen database platform engine by researching new technologies and approaches.
