Display and Optical Module Technical Program Manager

As a Technical Program Manager in the Display and Optics team at Meta, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies. You will lead cross-functional teams to design, develop, and integrate cutting-edge optical components and display systems that enhance user experiences. Your responsibilities will include managing complex projects, collaborating with global partners, and driving innovation in optical lens design and manufacturing. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and exceptional program management skills to deliver high-quality products that meet the evolving needs of our users.

Responsibilities
  1. Lead the development of optical components and module assemblies for AR displays and Smart glasses, focusing on specification, design, manufacturing, testing, process optimization, and integration.
  2. Manage projects with suppliers and partners, from creating statements of work to driving final deliverables in collaboration with Ops, Business Development, Legal, and Procurement.
  3. Evaluate suppliers’ experience to meet product requirements, partner with the ops team to establish a robust and scalable supply chain strategy.
  4. Operate at different levels of abstraction, from high-level strategic planning to tactical project management.
  5. Breakdown the complexity of technical programs to enable a clear understanding of scope and deliverables to a wider audience of team members and support functions.
  6. Proactively identify technical, legal, procedural, logistical, and communication issues and drive creative solutions to address them and manage risk.
  7. Identify resources needed and work closely with team leaders to maintain full visibility of the project schedule and potential roadblocks.
  8. Act as the main channel of communication for key formal discussions and decisions involving technical team leader, support functions, external partners, and other members of the organization.
  9. Expect to travel domestically and internationally, 4-6 times a year, primarily for supplier visits and build support.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree or higher in Optics, Physics, Materials science or a similar field.
  2. 5+ years as a technical program manager (or related role).
  3. Experience with program management methodologies like Agile, Phase-gate approach and tools like Smartsheets, Gantt charts.
  4. Experience leading and partnering with Asia-based vendors and contract manufacturers.
  5. Demonstrated experience in XFN communication, authoring and presenting documents, synthesizing information into the most salient points to move a team / initiative forward.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Experience in optical components, ophthalmic lenses, optical coatings, optical test and metrology.
  2. Experience operating in medical devices or other highly regulated industries.
  3. Experience in navigating language differences when working with Asia-based vendors to enhance collaboration and communication.
