Summary
The Haven for Hope Life Safety Dispatcher position involves skilled emergency service work, including receiving emergency 911 and non-emergency police assistance requests, determining call urgency, initiating appropriate responses, and maintaining contact with field units to monitor responses and support needs.

This role requires initiative and judgment in responding to emotionally disturbed or abusive individuals in various situations. Work may be performed independently or with other dispatchers, and may include assisting in training and equipment management.

The position requires rotating shifts and overtime to ensure 24-hour coverage. Initial training occurs during daytime hours for 2-3 weeks, followed by a primary schedule of 12-hour overnight shifts from 6 PM to 6 AM.

Essential Job Duties

1. Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls via telephone, radio, and computer-aided dispatch systems.
2. Evaluate and prioritize calls, dispatch units accordingly.
3. Monitor police activity and coordinate with units on campus.
4. Maintain status and location records of personnel.
5. Operate communication technology effectively.
6. Log communication activities and access sensitive data as needed.
7. Ensure security and confidentiality of information.
8. Stay informed of policies and procedures.
9. Assist in training new dispatchers and evaluate trainees.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Knowledge of public service operations, law enforcement terminology, and geography of the campus and surrounding areas.
• Skills in multitasking, observation, communication, and operating communication equipment.
• Ability to work quickly and clearly in emergencies, and establish effective relationships with law enforcement and the public.
• Dependability in attendance.

Certificates and Physical Requirements

• Preferably possess a valid Texas Driver’s License, good driving record, and reliable transportation.
• Physical activity includes sitting, standing, walking, and basic motor skills.
