Leech Lake Band Of Ojibwe (LLTPD) is seeking a Dispatch Communications Specialist to provide direct communication with Police Officers and other law enforcement agencies, handling calls for police, fire, ambulance and LLTPD services from the Leech Lake Tribal Police Department.
The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, 18+ years of age, and training in Radio Communications and Emergency Medical Dispatch.
Summary: Provide communications directly with Police Officers acting as the communications center for LLTPD and other law enforcement agencies and for persons needing LLTPD Police assistance or services.
Education Requirements and Experience:
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D) required.
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Radio Communications and Emergency Medical Dispatch training.
Must have the ability to accept constructive criticism required.
Must have no domestic assault or felony convictions required.
Must have good verbal and written communication and customer service skills.
Must have the ability to make sound decisions in various situations, including the ability to remain calm under pressure or stressful situations and to apply common sense.
Good oral and written communication skills and customer service skills.
Attain Incident Command Structure Training certifications.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Determine the nature and take action on telephone calls such as the need for police, fire department or ambulance service or general LLTPD services, and answer telephone calls to a specific employee and maintain a message log of all calls and delivering messages to the appropriate person.
Ensure all radio transmission from the officers in the field are answered promptly, evaluated efficiently and responded to courteously.
Maintain a good working relationship with Emergency Medical Technicians, Ambulance services, IHS hospital, Health Division and Human Services Division in responding to all emergency calls.
Remain attentive and maintain a good communicative relationship with the citizens of Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe.

Greet and assist persons entering the Leech Lake Tribal Police Department while maintaining a friendly, helpful attitude.
Create initial complaint report (ICR) and determine type of assistance required.
Circulate the ICR to appropriate Leech Lake Tribal Officer(s), counties and other individuals specifically involved with ICR.
Dispatch Police Officers, Animal Control Officer, Security Officer as required and post to the dispatch log.
Coordinate calls for service with Leech Lake Tribal Police Officers and the counties of Beltrami, Cass, Hubbard and Itasca.
Monitor the location of Police Officers, Building Security Officers, Animal Control Officer and other LLTPD employees.
Safeguard and maintain Dispatch Communications Center logs, e.g., incident reports, statistical reports, statements, etc.
Maintain current reservation housing and community maps, this involves physically touring the reservation, interacting with Tribal members, Land Division, City of Cass Lake, Bena etc. to verify locations, residents and fire numbers.
Ensure that the confidentiality of that nature is strictly adhered to, as well as maintaining a professional work ethic.
Must be available to work rotating shifts and be on call at all times.
Attend and or conduct all mandatory meetings and trainings as required.
Ability to travel in and out of state on a regular basis.
Understanding and sensitivity to Native American culture.
Adhere to policies governing staff conduct.
