Job summary

Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe seeks a dependable facilities and grounds attendant to maintain safe, clean, and properly functioning buildings and grounds for guests and staff at Cass Lake, Minnesota. The role includes diverse tasks from grounds care to custodial duties and basic systems upkeep.

Responsibilities cover mowing, trimming, custodial work, preventive maintenance, safety compliance, and occasional weekend coverage.

Qualifications

  • Must possess interpersonal skills to foster cooperation with employees.
  • Good oral and written communication and customer service abilities.
  • HS diploma or GED preferred; six months to one year of general experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform grounds care: mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, fertilizing, watering, reseeding and chemical applications.
  • Sweep, patch, repair parking areas; custodial tasks: sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, painting and cleaning.
  • Restock supplies and maintain restrooms; operate and maintain grounds care equipment.
  • Perform general labor tasks and assist other programs as requested.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot building systems; support safety and emergency coverage as needed.
  • Attend mandatory meetings and trainings; uphold confidentiality and professional ethics.

Job description

License/Certification Requirements: Valid MN Driver’s License, current insurance, or be insurable.

Summary: Responsible for providing safe, clean, and properly functioning buildings and grounds of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe facilities and property for guests and staff.

Education Requirements and Experience:

High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D) preferred.

Six months to one year of general experience.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

Possess interpersonal skills necessary to foster cooperation and effectively communicate with other employees.

Good oral and written communication skills and customer service skills.

Ability to pass a background and drug test.

Pre-employment drug testing is mandatory for all Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe positions.

Supervisory Duties:

None

Duties/Responsibilities:

Must practice safety precautions and be safety conscious at all times.

Performs grounds care, including but not limited to, mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, fertilizing, watering, reseeding, applying fungicides, herbicides, insecticides and sterilants; sweeping walks and drives; patching parking lots and drives; repairing signs, snow removal, spreading sand, salt or ice melt.

Operates, maintains power and non-powered grounds care equipment.

Performs custodial tasks, including but not limited to, sweeping, vacuuming, extracting, mopping and polishing floors; washing, painting, ceilings, interior, exterior walls and siding; cleans windows and blinds; cleans bathrooms, showers and fixtures.

Responsible for restocking toilet paper, paper towels, soap dispensers and trash removal.

Operates and maintains all floor equipment.

Performs general labor tasks as assigned or as requested by other programs.

Operates, maintains and troubleshoots hot water boiler, steam boilers and all auxiliary systems.

Performs maintenance and troubleshoots all building systems, utilizing Mechanical carpentry, plumbing & painting, basic electrical, masonry, plaster and sheetrock skills.

Performs maintenance and troubleshoots all heating and cooling systems.

Participates in off-shift and weekend emergency maintenance coverage as needed.

Performs shift work as needed and all other duties as assigned.

Attend and or conduct all mandatory meetings and trainings as required.

Maintain confidentiality and professional ethics at all times.

Understanding and sensitivity to Native American culture.

Adhere to policies governing staff conduct.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift, carry and move up to 75 lbs.

Be physically capable of performing assigned tasks.
