Job summary

Colony Retirement Homes in Worcester, MA is seeking wait staff to help serve meals to residents, set tables, and assist kitchen staff with side work. You will deliver plated food quickly and maintain a clean dining area, ensuring a positive resident dining experience.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year in food service; experience with the elderly is preferred. Uniforms provided; hourly schedule around 37.5 hours per week with potential weekends.

Job description

Reports to – Front of House Manager

Weekly Hours - Estimated 37.5 per week.

Position Summary – The primary roles of the wait staff positions are to bring food plates to resident tables quickly and efficiently, to clear plates after meal has ended, and to assist kitchen staff with other side work as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Experience, and Training–High School diploma or equivalent preferred. At least one year experience in a food service position is preferred. Experience with the elderly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities –Strong interpersonal skills including having a helpful and patient nature. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing, particularly during emergencies. Clean appearance required. Uniform Provided. Requires ability to focus on details and multitask as situations demand. Some knowledge of health hazards in food service and precautionary measures. Ability to interpret and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to move quickly in and out of tables while delivering plated food.

Job Responsibilities* – those responsibilities italicized below are considered essential functions.

1. Setting tables in dining room for daily meals.
2. Preparing and serving beverages.
3. Serving meals in a timely fashion.
4. Plating desserts, fruit cups, breads and any other item which should accompany the day's meals.
5. Clearing of tables, bringing dishes to dish room.
6. Proper cleaning of entire section of dining room including tables, chairs and carpet sweeping, cleaning of kitchen areas and equipment.
7. Cleaning and filling condiment containers.
8. Responsive to customer preferences.
9. Make sure adequate supplies are on hand. When supplies are low, forward list of needed supplies to supervisor or order directly as directed.
10. Assist food service manager with special functions i.e., picnics, ice cream sundae parties.
11. Keep supervisor adequately informed of any issues of concern.
12. Other duties as assigned.

Work Conditions/Physical Demands –

• Position is hourly. Hours depend on schedule. Occasional need for additional hours. Hours generally during typical business hours (9am-6pm) and on weekends. Hours in kitchen and apartment building setting.
• Requires ability to work with hot and sharp objects safely.
• Requires ability to maintain hygienic appearance and keep food and related items sanitary.
• Requires ability to communicate clearly with elderly residents about needs and wants for more food or drinks.
• Will require frequent lifting of plated food, around 30 pounds.
• Repetitive movements may be required.
• Requires ability to concentrate during regular, noisy periods.
• Environment is particularly hot in Summer.
• All kitchen personnel are required to work holidays on a rotating basis.
• Frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures.
• Frequent hand washing and working with hands in water.
• Exposure to cleaning agents.
