Job summary

CalPERS in Sacramento County is seeking a Disability Retirement Analyst I to join the Disability and Survivor Benefits Division. This permanent, full-time role offers hybrid telework with up to two days remote work and three or more onsite per week.

Under supervision, you will review disability retirement applications, gather medical and legal documentation, and adjudicate cases in a timely, accurate manner while communicating decisions to applicants and seeking process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Case Management: Collect medical and legal documents, assess eligibility, and ensure timely case determinations.
  • Customer Communication: Clearly communicate decisions and next steps to applicants.
  • Process Improvement: Recommend and implement changes to enhance the efficiency and quality of the disability retirement process.

Job Description And Duties

Do you enjoy working in a fast‑paced, challenging environment? Do you want your work to have meaningful purpose and impact? Join our Disability and Survivor Benefits Division (DSBD) as an Analyst I within the Disability Retirement Unit!

Under the direction of a Supervisor I, the Analyst I is responsible for reviewing applications for Disability/Industrial Disability Retirement, gathering necessary medical and legal documentation, and adjudicating CalPERS member’s cases in a timely and accurate manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Disability Retirement Review: Evaluate disability and industrial disability retirement applications.
  • Case Management: Collect medical and legal documents, assess eligibility, and ensure timely case determinations.
  • Customer Communication: Clearly communicate decisions and next steps to applicants.
  • Process Improvement: Recommend and implement changes to enhance the efficiency and quality of the disability retirement process.
Telework Information

This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with up to two days of remote work and three days or more onsite, per week.

Sponsorship

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship. CalPERS does not participate in E‑Verify for employment authorization purposes.

Effective July 1, 2025

The California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025). PLP 2025 directs that each employee shall receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours PLP 2025 leave credits, monthly. The salary range(s) included in the job advertisement do not reflect the 3 percent reduction in pay.
