Job summary

California Department of Social Services is seeking a Disability Evaluation Analyst in Los Angeles County. The position is permanent, full-time, with hybrid telework and a focus on determining disability eligibility for Social Security, SSI, and Medi-Cal programs.

The DEA works with a Medical Consultant to obtain medical evidence, assess impairment severity, and determine ability to perform substantial work. Applicants must complete the required state exam and background checks.

Job Description And Duties

Under the general direction of the Team Manager (DESA I), and after successful completion of a formal training period, the Disability Evaluation Analyst (DEA) is responsible for a caseload consisting of initial claims for benefits under the Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, and/or Medi-Cal Disability programs. The DEA is responsible, in conjunction with a Medical Consultant (MC), for establishing an applicant’s eligibility for disability benefits by obtaining medical and vocational evidence, determining impairment severity, and evaluating the ability to engage in substantial work activity. The DEA is a full participant on the team and is involved in decision-making regarding team endeavors related to the team's quality, workflow and production.

This position is located in Los Angeles, Glendale, Covina/Los Angeles.

NOTE: This exam is not the same as the Analyst exam series.

This position requires Federal fingerprint clearance and background check. Criminal record checks of prospective full- or part-time CDSS, Disability Determination Service Division (DDSD) personnel will be conducted. Applicants for this position will be required to submit fingerprints for Federal processing. Federal clearance is a condition of employment for this position.
