Job summary

Bowie State University seeks a Director of Information Security to develop and execute security controls and programs for academic, research and administrative missions, reporting to the CIO.

The role requires a cybersecurity leader with deep technical expertise, 10+ years in leadership, CISSP certification, and experience with regulatory standards (NIST, ISO 27001, SOC 2). It involves audits, cloud security design, and promoting awareness across campus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
• 10+ years of cybersecurity leadership experience.
• CISSP certification required.
• Experience with cloud-native security tools and automation.
• Knowledge of NIST, ISO 27001, SOC 2 and privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA).

Responsibilities

• Advise and maintain a university-wide information security program aligned with regulatory standards.
• Oversee the ISO and Information Assurance Specialists.
• Design and implement secure cloud infrastructure and zero-trust architecture.
• Lead incident response planning and post-incident analysis.
• Coordinate audits with state agencies, the OLA and external partners.
• Promote cybersecurity awareness across the university community.
• Collaborate with academic, research and administrative units on secure data use.
• Manage cybersecurity vendor relationships and investments.
• Support CIO with grants, research partnerships, and accreditation efforts.
