Job summary

Bowie State University is seeking a Director of Information Security to lead the university-wide information security program and governance. You will advise the CIO, oversee the ISO and security specialists, and drive cloud security and zero-trust initiatives in a complex higher-education environment.

The role requires a cybersecurity leader with deep regulatory knowledge, strong collaboration across academic and administrative units, and experience coordinating external audits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
• 10+ years of progressive cybersecurity leadership experience.
• Experience with cloud-native security tools and automation.
• Strong knowledge of privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA) and compliance frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001, SOC 2).

Responsibilities

• Advise, develop and maintain a university-wide information security program.
• Oversee ISO and Information Assurance Specialists and coordinate security operations.
• Design and implement secure cloud infrastructure and zero-trust architecture.
• Lead incident response planning, execution and post-incident reporting.
• Coordinate audits with state agencies and external partners.
• Promote cybersecurity awareness across the university community.
• Manage cybersecurity vendor relationships and investments.
• Support CIO with grants, research partnerships and accreditation.
