Job description

The hiring range for this role is:

$155,000.00 - $175,000.00

This is the lowest to highest salary we, in good faith, believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the hiring range, and this range may also be modified in the future. A candidate's position within the range may depend on competencies, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and organizational needs. This job is also eligible for an annual bonus incentive pay.

Synergie Medication Collective, founded by Blue Cross and Blue Shield affiliates, aims to improve affordability and access to costly medical benefit drugs, especially those injected or infused in clinical settings, for nearly 100 million Americans.

The Trade Client Strategy Director liaises with participants, manages clinical policies to comply with manufacturer contracts, implements trade strategies, and collaborates with the Client Relations team for trade inquiries. Responsibilities include managing drug and pharmacy policies, cross-benefit management, and rebate qualification for manufacturer contracts. The role involves establishing partnerships within the organization to develop and execute rebate programs and serving as the primary trade contact for participant activities, supporting clinical decision-making.

Primary Job Functions

  1. Consult with Client Relations on trade inquiries, initiatives, and opportunities with participants.
  2. Understand the impact of rebate and formulary strategies and communicate effectively with health plan participants.
  3. Possess working knowledge of PBM operations, drug, and utilization management strategies.
  4. Read and interpret pharmaceutical manufacturer drug contracts, aligning terms with UM policies.
  5. Manage medical and pharmacy clinical policies for manufacturer contract compliance.
  6. Support client relations for trade inquiries from participants.

Partner with the following stakeholders:

  • Analytics Team: Collaborate on drug trends, utilization data, and policy decisions.
  • Client Relations: Serve as the primary contact for participant questions and escalate issues.
  • Clinical Team: Review clinical data and policy requirements.
  • Invoicing Team: Maintain policies and support inquiries regarding clinical policies.
  • Product Team: Provide medical policy support for manufacturer-related contracts.

Education, Experience, and Certification

  • Pharmacy degree and PharmD preferred.
  • 5-7 years of experience in healthcare, PBM, utilization management, or pharmaceutical contracting.
  • Eligibility to work in the US without sponsorship.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships at all organizational levels.
  • Practical application of clinical data for financial value.
  • Strong business and financial skills, proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Pharmacy residency or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with PBM, Medicaid, Medicare, and health plans.
  • Knowledge of contract language and risk mitigation.

Travel up to 10%. Work is generally remote.
