Job description

Ally and Your Career Ally Financial only succeeds when its people do - and that’s more than some cliché people put on job postings. We love this stuff! We see our people as, well, people - with interests, families, friends, dreams, and causes that are all important to them. Our focus is on the health and safety of our teammates as well as work-life balance and diversity and inclusion. From generous benefits to a variety of employee resource groups, we strive to build paths that encourage employees to stretch themselves professionally. We want to help you grow, develop, and learn new things. You’re constantly evolving, so shouldn’t your opportunities be, too?

Work Schedule

Ally designates roles as (1) fully on-site, (2) hybrid, or (3) fully remote. Hybrid roles are generally expected to be in the office a certain number of days per week as indicated by your manager. Your hiring manager will discuss this role's specific work requirements with you during the hiring process. All work requirements are subject to change at any time based on leader discretion and/or business need.

The Opportunity At Ally, we blend the pace of a startup with the scale of an established financial services leader. Our technology teams build customer-centric solutions with meaningful business impact, driven by ownership, collaboration, and innovation. We are seeking a Director of Software Engineering – Salesforce to lead the engineering strategy and delivery of Ally’s enterprise Salesforce platform. This leader will provide strategic and people leadership across Salesforce development teams, with accountability for execution, engineering quality, resource and financial management, and business outcomes. In this role, you will partner with Product, Architecture, Business, Data, Security, and other technology leaders to deliver scalable Salesforce solutions that improve customer and teammate experiences, increase operational efficiency, and support Ally’s broader digital strategy.

The Work Itself

Define and execute the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Ally’s Salesforce platform, aligned with business objectives and measurable outcomes. Lead multiple Salesforce engineering teams, establishing clear expectations for delivery, technical quality, accountability, and continuous improvement. Partner with Product, Architecture, and business leaders to translate strategic priorities into scalable Salesforce capabilities and executable delivery plans. Oversee complex Salesforce programs with accountability for scope, schedule, budget, quality, dependencies, and business outcomes. Guide Salesforce architecture and solution design, balancing configuration, low-code capabilities, custom development, integration, and reuse to reduce unnecessary complexity. Establish and enforce engineering standards for Apex, Lightning Web Components, Flow, APIs, automated testing, code reviews, documentation, secure development, and CI/CD. Ensure Salesforce solutions meet enterprise expectations for security, privacy, accessibility, resiliency, regulatory compliance, performance, and supportability. Lead the effective adoption of Salesforce capabilities, including Service Cloud, Financial Services Cloud, Experience Cloud, Data Cloud, and Agentforce, based on business priorities and measurable value. Manage workforce planning, resource allocation, budgets, vendors, and delivery capacity across employee, contractor, onshore, and offshore teams. Build and develop high-performing engineering managers, technical leaders, developers, administrators, and platform specialists through coaching, feedback, and career development. Communicate platform strategy, delivery progress, investment needs, risks, trade-offs, and recommendations clearly to senior business and technology leaders.

The Skills You Bring
  • Proven experience leading multiple software engineering teams and complex technology initiatives within a large enterprise.
  • Demonstrated ability to define and execute technology strategies and roadmaps aligned with business objectives and measurable outcomes.
  • Strong people leadership experience, including developing engineering managers, technical leaders, and distributed teams.
  • Deep understanding of Salesforce architecture, platform governance, and declarative and programmatic development, including Apex, Lightning Web Components, Flow, security, and data models.
  • Experience with Salesforce products such as Service Cloud, Financial Services Cloud, Experience Cloud, Data Cloud, or Agentforce.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise integrations, APIs, middleware, OAuth, Salesforce platform limits, automated testing, DevSecOps, CI/CD, and release management.
  • Proven ability to manage complex delivery portfolios, budgets, workforce plans, vendors, technical debt, and competing priorities.
  • Strong executive communication and influencing skills, with the ability to translate business objectives into scalable solutions and clearly explain technical decisions, risks, and trade-offs.
The Qualifications We’re Looking For

7+ years of experience in software engineering, technology delivery, or platform leadership, including experience leading engineering managers or multiple development teams.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience; Salesforce architecture or development certifications are preferred.

Significant experience leading enterprise Salesforce implementations, engineering teams, or platform organizations.

Experience delivering customer service, contact center, CRM, or digital servicing solutions within a regulated enterprise or financial services environment.
