Ally Financial is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in Charlotte, NC to design, build, test, and support production software. You will own features from design through deployment and mentor junior engineers, balancing delivery with security, reliability, and long-term health.

You will collaborate with Product, Architecture, SRE, Cybersecurity, Risk, and partner teams, applying AI-assisted development tools while focusing on quality and maintainability.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of relevant engineering experience, including hands-on software development.

• Strong fundamentals in at least one programming language or tech domain; ability to drive solutions independently.

Work Schedule

Ally designates roles as (1) fully on-site, (2) hybrid, or (3) fully remote. Hybrid roles are generally expected to be in the office a certain number of days per week as indicated by your manager. The Opportunity

As a Senior Software Engineer at Ally, you will design, build, test, and support software that powers critical customer and business experiences. You will own meaningful technical solutions from design through production, work independently within squad priorities, and mentor less-experienced engineers. This is a hands- on role for an engineer who balances near-term delivery with quality, security, reliability, and long-term technical health. We value the ability to solve problems, learn new technologies, and use AI development tools effectively. The Work Itself

Design, develop, test, deploy, and support production software.

Own features and technical solutions from design through implementation and support.

Write and review code using traditional, automated, and AI-assisted development approaches.

Collaborate with Product, Architecture, SRE, Cybersecurity, Risk, and partner engineering teams.

Improve software quality, reliability, maintainability, and developer productivity.

Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance.

Qualifications We’re Looking For

Minimum qualifications

• 3+ years of relevant experience
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or equivalent

Preferred qualifications

• Professional experience building and supporting production software in a complex environment.
• Strong engineering fundamentals with depth in at least one programming language or technology domain.
• Ability to independently drive solutions, raise risks, and seek alignment when needed.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills.
• A production mindset that considers security, reliability, observability, maintainability, and customer impact.

Core Technologies

• Python, Java, Node.js, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, React Native, Angular, Spring, REST APIs, automated testing, CI/CD, Git, AWS or Azure, and connecting to backend SQL databases.
