We are seeking a Director, Senior Counsel – Litigation to oversee and manage a diverse litigation portfolio across more than 25 states. This individual will serve as the company’s primary legal authority on complex litigation matters, including commercial disputes, employment litigation, workers’ compensation, automobile liability, small claims, and alternative dispute resolution (ADR). The role requires a highly capable litigator with strong motion practice experience, preferably with a background in employment litigation. This individual will oversee our national bench of outside counsel and provide strategic guidance to internal business leaders. The position is ideal for an attorney from a reputable midsize or large firm who is looking to transition into a high-impact, in-house leadership role at a fast-growing company.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the company’s litigation docket, including high-stakes, high-exposure litigation as well as matters with lower monetary exposure but strategic importance.
  • Manage the company’s employment litigation matters, including the defense of claims involving discrimination, harassment, wage and hour issues, and retaliation.
  • Provide legal oversight on commercial disputes, tort claims, premises liability, automobile accidents, and breach of contract actions.
  • Handle pre-litigation threat letters and regulatory complaints, including those from State Attorneys General’s Offices or state-level regulatory bodies.
  • Direct outside counsel in accordance with the company’s Defense Counsel Guidelines to ensure alignment with litigation strategy, budgets, and internal expectations.
  • Partner with internal teams to develop litigation strategy, assess risk, and evaluate resolution opportunities, including settlement and ADR.
  • Review and revise key litigation documents, including pleadings, motion papers, and settlement agreements.
  • Ensure adherence to litigation plans, internal reporting requirements, and case budgets.
  • Coordinate the collection of evidence, conduct internal investigations, and manage discovery processes in collaboration with stakeholders across the business.
  • Lead case strategy discussions with business leaders and executive stakeholders.
  • Regularly evaluate and refine litigation practices to promote efficiency, manage risk, and align with business objectives.
  • Serve as a strategic resource to cross-functional teams involved in dispute resolution.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive annual salary.
  • Full benefits package, including medical, dental, life, disability, and pet insurance.
  • 401(k) plan with company match.
  • Health Savings Account.
  • Subsidized Child Care Assistance with access to a network of high-quality childcare programs.
  • Generous paid time off (PTO), including vacation and holidays.
  • Flexible Paid Parental Leave (Both Maternity and Paternity).
  • A robust people-first culture that promotes professional growth, collaboration, diversity, inclusion, belonging, and work-life balance.
  • Opportunities to attend leadership development programs, industry events, and our annual company trip to Mexico.
  • Complimentary access to on-site fitness center.

Work Environment:

The Director, Senior Counsel – Litigation works in-office in a state-of-the-art environment at our headquarters. This is not a remote position. Some travel may be required.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed and in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 6–10 years of relevant litigation experience, preferably at a midsize or large law firm.
  • Demonstrated success in managing all phases of litigation, including motion practice, discovery, settlement negotiations, and trial preparation.
  • Experience in employment litigation is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of civil procedure, evidentiary standards, and case strategy across multiple jurisdictions

Desired Skills & Attributes:

  • Business-minded approach to legal strategy, balancing risk and operational goals.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent project and time management capabilities.
  • Highly collaborative and relationship-driven; able to work with stakeholders across departments and levels.
