Responsibilities

• The Claims Litigation Director provides expert technical claim handling for the most serious and complex claims for an excess and surplus lines writer. The role requires experience in Commercial General Liability, Garage, and Professional Liability claims, with a focus on Legal Malpractice matters. The director offers technical advice to associates, defense counsel, independents, support staff, and less-experienced technical personnel. Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential.
• Analyzing liability and damage issues related to claims against insureds, maintaining thorough documentation.
• Assessing insurance coverage issues and drafting coverage position letters.
• Retaining and supervising outside counsel to defend insureds and resolve claims effectively.
• Managing pending matters, maintaining accurate reserves, and overseeing case files.
• Building and maintaining relationships with insureds, brokers, and outside counsel.
• Supporting underwriters with risk evaluation for specific accounts.
• Preparing and transmitting regular Large Loss Reports and detailed documentation.
• Monitoring and managing caseloads using various resources.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and/or relevant insurance claims experience.
• Minimum of 10 years handling Commercial General Liability and Professional Liability Claims.
• Full knowledge of insurance contracts, investigation techniques, legal requirements, and regulations.
• Ability to evaluate, analyze, and interpret complex contracts and information.
• Current Claims Adjuster licenses in one or more states preferred; willingness to obtain additional licenses.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Intermediate proficiency in Windows-based programs, including Word, Excel, and email.
