Publicly Traded P&C Insurance Company seeks a Director of SEC & Technical Accounting to own SEC reporting, technical accounting, and complex issues, partnering with CFO and CAO on policy development and financial reporting strategy.

The role requires oversight of 10-K/10-Q/8-K filings, coordination with external auditors, and leadership of a high-impact accounting team in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
• CPA strongly preferred with active license.
• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a publicly traded insurance company or Big 4 environment.
• Strong understanding of SEC reporting and U.S. GAAP.

Responsibilities

• Lead the company's SEC financial reporting process, including preparation and review of Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K and related SEC filings.
• Oversee technical accounting research and conclusions related to complex transactions and evolving accounting standards.
• Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and technical accounting memoranda.
• Monitor developments from the FASB, SEC, PCAOB, and other regulatory bodies and assess their impact.
• Partner with finance, legal, actuarial, investments, tax, treasury, and operations teams to evaluate accounting implications of new transactions.
• Advise senior finance leadership on complex and judgmental accounting matters.
• Coordinate with external auditors throughout SEC reporting and technical accounting processes.
• Evaluate new accounting standards and lead implementation efforts where appropriate.
• Support audit committee materials and presentations related to financial reporting and accounting matters.
• Identify opportunities to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and controls in financial reporting processes.
• Assist with acquisition accounting, new products, investments, reinsurance transactions, and other significant/non-routine transactions.
• Provide leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance to accounting and financial reporting teams.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

CPA

8+ years of progressive accounting experience

Strong understanding of SEC reporting and U.S. GAAP
