Job summary

Our client, a publicly traded company, seeks a Vice President of Technical Accounting to lead accounting policy and technical reporting. This senior role interfaces with the finance leadership, external auditors, and the audit committee, guiding complex transactions and ensuring GAAP/SEC compliance.

Responsibilities include researching and documenting complex matters, leading SEC filings, and developing memos for senior leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting; active CPA license required.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including time at a Big 4 or national public accounting firm.
• Significant experience with SEC registrants, including technical accounting and external reporting.
• Real estate or financial services industry experience strongly preferred.
• Proven ability to write concise, well-supported technical memos and defend positions with auditors.
• Excellent communicator, comfortable presenting to senior executives and audit committees.
• Collaborative, detail-oriented leader who can balance hands-on work with strategic oversight.
• Experience with acquisitions, dispositions, leases, joint ventures and consolidation, impairment, development cost capitalization, and debt/equity transactions.

Responsibilities

• Own the company's accounting policies, ensuring alignment with US GAAP and SEC requirements.
• Research, document, and conclude on complex accounting matters.
• Write technical memos and present conclusions to leadership and auditors.
• Oversee or support SEC reporting, including Form 10-K and 10-Q and non-GAAP measures.
• Monitor new accounting standards and SEC guidance, assess impact, and lead implementation.
• Serve as a key contact for external auditors on technical matters and support audits.
• Collaborate with deal, legal, tax, and treasury teams early in transactions to shape structuring.
• Maintain internal controls over financial reporting related to technical accounting and policy, in line with SOX.
