Reports to: Sr. Director, Patient Access

Purpose

The Director of Patient Access manages daily workflows for approximately 25 specialty medications, leading a team of 80-100 staff. The role ensures efficient, high-quality support for benefits investigation, prior authorizations, financial assistance, and copay support, while maintaining compliance and seamless patient access to therapy.

Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
  • Leads and manages a team across benefits verification, prior authorization, and copay assistance.
  • Ensures team performance meets KPIs such as speed to therapy, authorization turnaround, and patient onboarding success.
  • Supports staff development, training, and quality assurance to maintain excellence and compliance.
  • Monitors staffing, workflow, and productivity for optimal performance.
  • Addresses operational challenges proactively with solutions.
Program Implementation & Manufacturer Alignment
  • Oversees implementation of new manufacturer agreements and drug launches.
  • Translates contracts, SLAs, and access program requirements into workflows and SOPs.
  • Leads onboarding of new products, ensuring smooth system integration.
  • Maintains strong relationships with internal stakeholders to meet contractual obligations.
Process Optimization & Compliance
  • Continuously improves workflows for speed, quality, and compliance.
  • Ensures documentation and SOPs meet regulatory and manufacturer standards.
  • Partners with compliance, training, and IT teams for data accuracy and audit readiness.
  • Proactively resolves issues affecting access and satisfaction.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Works closely with Pharmacy Operations, Revenue Cycle, Product, and IT teams.
  • Supports system upgrades and enhancements.
  • Represents Patient Access in cross-functional projects.
  • Communicates effectively across teams and with staff.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • At least 6 years of healthcare experience.
  • At least 5 years of team management experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Nursing, or related field.
  • Over 7 years in patient access, pharmacy services, or specialty healthcare, with 3+ years managing large teams.
  • Operational knowledge of specialty pharmacy access processes.
  • Experience with workflows aligned to manufacturer programs.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of payer policies, access barriers, and financial assistance resources.
  • Familiarity with CRM and reporting tools.
Work Environment

Remote or in-office, using standard office equipment.

Physical Demands
