Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work, Education, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Seven (7) years of progressively responsible professional experience in student affairs, student success, counseling, accessibility, or related higher education functions.
  • Five (5) years of supervisory or management experience, including supervising and developing professional staff.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives and using data to guide improvement.
  • Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.

Job Description:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Dean of Student Care provides strategic leadership for theCollege's integrated approach to student care, case management,specialized support, and targeted student success. Serving as theprimary architect of the College's coordinated care and casemanagement framework, the Dean develops the systems, partnerships,shared practices, and technology-enabled infrastructure that enablefaculty and staff across the College to identify student needs,make effective referrals, coordinate support, and connect studentswith appropriate resources. This work strengthens communication andfollow-up, reduces fragmentation, and provides appropriate accessto student information while maintaining privacy, confidentiality,and role-based access.

The Dean provides leadership and oversight for TRIO, SUCCESS, theO'Neill Center for Student Access & Support, Perkins and MAIHEstudent support initiatives, Veterans Affairs, Student CounselingServices, essential needs, student care and case management, theCARE Team, Community Standards and Student Conduct, and otherassigned student success initiatives. In close partnership with theAssistant Dean of Academic Advising, the Dean ensures that AcademicAdvising is fully integrated into the College's coordinated careand case management framework, with shared approaches to referrals,communication, follow-up, and connecting students to appropriatesupports. The Dean also works closely with the Director of StudentWellness and Engagement to connect individual student care andspecialized support with broader prevention, wellness, engagement,and belonging strategies.

The Dean provides leadership for staff supervision and development,strategic planning, assessment, budgets and grants, policy andtechnology implementation, partnerships, compliance, and continuousimprovement across assigned areas.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
  1. Provide strategic leadership for the College's comprehensivestudent care and success framework, including specialized studentsupport programs, case management, counseling, accessibility,essential needs, Veterans Affairs, Community Standards and StudentConduct, and related services.
  2. Build strong partnerships with Academic Affairs, faculty,Academic Advising, Enrollment Services, Financial Aid, StudentWellness and Engagement, Public Safety, and other College areas toestablish shared responsibility for identifying student needs,connecting students with resources, and supporting persistence andsuccess.
  3. Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement ofa College-wide coordinated care and case management framework, establishing shared standards and best practices for referrals,case coordination, documentation, communication, follow-up, andclosing the loop across academic and student service areas.
  4. Provide functional leadership for the evaluation,implementation, and effective use of case management and studentsuccess technologies that support coordinated care, sharedinformation, referrals, communication, documentation, andassessment while ensuring appropriate privacy, confidentiality,security, and role-based access.
  5. Provide strategic leadership and oversight for targeted andgrant-funded student success programs, including TRIO, Perkins,MAIHE, SUCCESS, and other initiatives, promoting collaboration,effective referral pathways, shared practices, and coordinatedsupport to improve persistence, retention, completion, andequitable student outcomes.
  6. Lead the College's CARE Team and coordinated studentintervention and crisis response processes, ensuring appropriateassessment, referral, follow-up, documentation, and collaborationin responding to students experiencing academic, personal,behavioral, financial, or other barriers.
  7. Provide administrative and organizational leadership forStudent Counseling Services, ensuring adherence to professionalstandards, confidentiality requirements, and clearly definedreferral and response protocols, while the Director of StudentCounseling maintains responsibility for clinical leadership andsupervision.
  8. Provide strategic leadership for the O'Neill Center for StudentAccess & Support and College efforts to ensure equitable accessand appropriate accommodations for students with disabilities inaccordance with applicable laws, regulations, and Collegepolicies.
  9. Provide strategic leadership for the College's approach toessential needs, strengthening resources, referral pathways,partnerships, and coordinated strategies that address non-academicbarriers to student persistence and success.
  10. Provide leadership and oversight for Veterans Affairs andcoordinate College efforts to support veterans, service members,military-connected students, and other eligible populations.
  11. Provide leadership for Community Standards and Student Conduct,promoting an educational and developmental approach toaccountability that helps students understand College expectations,resolve concerns, and remain successfully engaged in theireducation.
  12. Establish measurable outcomes and use student success metrics,program participation and service-utilization data, studentfeedback, and assessment findings to evaluate effectiveness,identify equity and service gaps, and guide continuousimprovement.
  13. Provide leadership, supervision, coaching, and evaluation forprofessional and support staff within assigned areas and fostercollaboration, professional development, shared accountability, and a student-centered culture across the portfolio.
  14. Develop and oversee departmental and program budgets, grants,contracts, policies, procedures, partnerships, and operationalplans while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations,grant requirements, professional standards, and Collegepolicies.
  15. Serve as a senior advisor to the Vice President on studentcare, student success, conduct, crisis response, retention, andrelated Student Affairs matters and represent the College oninstitutional committees, community partnerships, and professionalorganizations.
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, StudentAffairs, Counseling, Social Work, Education, Public Administration,or a closely related field.
  2. Seven (7) years of progressively responsible professionalexperience in student affairs, student success, student support,counseling, accessibility, case management, retention, or relatedhigher education functions, including experience providingleadership for multiple programs or functional areas.
  3. Five (5) years of progressively responsible supervisory ormanagement experience, including experience supervising anddeveloping professional staff.
  4. Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functionalinitiatives and developing collaborative systems or practices thatspan multiple departments or organizational areas.
  5. Demonstrated experience with strategic planning, programdevelopment, budget and/or grant management, assessment, and theuse of data to evaluate effectiveness and guide continuousimprovement.
  6. Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary student affairspractices related to student development, coordinated care and casemanagement, equitable access, student success, persistence, andcompletion.
  7. Demonstrated ability to provide strategic and collaborativeleadership, build effective partnerships, manage complex studentand organizational matters, and communicate effectively withdiverse constituencies.
  8. Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Experience working in a community college or public highereducation environment.
  2. Experience providing leadership for multiple student affairs orstudent success functions, including administration of specialized,federal, state, or other grant-funded student supportprograms.
  3. Experience with student conduct, behavioral intervention/CAREteams, case management, accessibility, counseling, oressential-needs programs.
  4. Experience using or implementing case-management,student-success, assessment, or other technologies to improvecoordination, access, and student outcomes.
  5. Experience working in a unionized environment.

Additional Information:
COMPENSATION

Annual salary range of $135,000 - $140,000,dependent upon qualifications. Full-time, Non-Unit Professionalposition that includes participation in a comprehensiveemployee benefits program and the option for membership in theMassachusetts State Employees' Retirement System.
