Job summary

Inovonics, a Colorado-based leader in wireless sensing and security tech, seeks a Director of Software Engineering to elevate the software organization. You will champion AI-native development, coach engineers, and drive a unified team across in-office, nearshore, and contract staff, setting a high standard of quality and delivery.

You will partner with firmware, hardware, QA, and product to deliver connected life-safety software, ensuring audits are met and human sign-off remains at gates.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with 3+ years leading teams of 10+ engineers.
• Proven track record coaching engineers and growing careers.
• Experience leading a software team through disruptive change (DevOps/CI-CD, platform engineering, or AI-assisted development).
• Genuine conviction and hands-on familiarity with AI-assisted and agentic development and adoption.
• Hands-on experience architecting cloud and cloud-connected software on a major platform (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Experience building software for connected hardware, IoT, or device-to-cloud products.
• Experience leading teams delivering user-facing software with strong UI/UX judgment.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to partner across engineering, product, and business.
• Colorado-based or willing to relocate.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop the software engineering team; own hiring, performance management, and career development.
• Integrate in-office, nearshore, and contract engineers into a single team with shared standards.
• Champion AI-native, agentic development; drive enablement and change management.
• Own software delivery for connected life-safety and security products, including audits.
• Establish and own engineering metrics, cadence, and operating rhythm; report progress.
• Set and enforce engineering standards: code quality, architecture, DevOps/CI-CD, test automation, release discipline.
• Oversee delivery across the full software stack from UI/UX to APIs, back-end, cloud, and AI services.
• Uphold quality at human-in-the-loop review gates; manage change-failure and rework.
• Partner with firmware, hardware, QA, and product to ensure coherent connected products.
• Manage technical debt and delivery risk; balance near-term delivery with long-term health.
• Manage contracts with third-party SaaS vendors; own budget and cloud spend.
• Build bench strength and succession within the software organization.
• Represent software engineering in planning, estimation, and prioritization with stakeholders.
• Comply with company policies and standards of conduct.
