Job summary

Expo seeks a hands-on Director of Infrastructure to lead reliability, scalability, and evolution of core systems across platform engineering, data pipelines, billing, and multi-cloud environments. The role balances technical depth with leadership, guiding teams through complex incidents while shaping long-term strategy.

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge in OS, cloud or Kubernetes, with ability to fix at any layer (low-level depth).
• Proven track record leading infrastructure initiatives while staying hands-on.
• Experience managing and scaling Linux/macOS fleets and provisioning workflows.
• Extensive cloud infra experience with elastic capacity and multi-cloud awareness.
• Familiarity with internal developer platforms and code-review systems.

Responsibilities

• Define infrastructure strategy and roadmap to ensure reliability and scale across engineering and product.
• Own macOS and Linux fleets, developer infra, code review systems and provisioning; implement automation and observability.
• Operate data pipelines, data engineering and billing infrastructure for reliability and resilience.
• Scale fleet management and multi-cloud expansion to meet growing demand.
• Lead on-call rotations, incident response and rapid problem resolution to keep production up.
• Contribute hands-on technical depth by coding, debugging, and driving improvements.
• Partner with engineering and product to communicate strategy, trade-offs and progress.
• Deliver compute at scale across multiple clouds and regions while optimizing costs.
• Translate business needs into actionable infra plans with clear timelines and risks.
• Improve velocity and security by building reusable platforms and guardrails.
